      Summary: Examines preservice study programs offered to Orthodox Jews, which serve as mediating structures between the demands of religious Zionism and the demands of the Israel Defense Forces without encouraging the students to disobey military orders in preference to commands of their rabbis.   As of the start of , most Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) men who are citizens of Israel do not have to serve in the Israel Defense Forces as long as they are fulltime yeshiva students.
